When many begin to return from their summer trips it is time to overcome the post-holiday syndrome by planning a weekend getaway or thinking about the next holidays but what are the most expensive and cheapest capitals in Europe to travel? CheckMyBus has published its ranking of European capitals in which it compares the price of different tourist services in 41 countries. This study not only helps to get an idea of the price of tourism in each of the cities, but also to choose the ideal destination for the next getaway according to the budget and the time available.

Thanks to the great offer of buses, trains and low-cost flights, moving around Europe is easier than ever. But are we really taking advantage of all the available offer or are we basically just going through the so-called comfort zone? After analyzing the price level faced by tourists in the different European capitals, it is striking that the biggest price differences are between the north (the most expensive) and the east (the cheapest) in Europe. Copenhagen, crowned as the most expensive capital in Europe, offers an average price per day almost 7 times higher than Kiev, the cheapest capital in the ranking.

To calculate the average price per day, accommodation and food have been taken into account, but also tickets to tourist attractions and local transport. Once the price has been obtained per day, it has been calculated how many days can be spent in each destination with a budget of € 400.

How to stretch the budget to the maximum

To stretch the budget to the maximum, nothing better than traveling east. Kiev, better known as the "East Jerusalem" because of its high concentration of churches and monasteries, is the absolute winner of the ranking. Skopje, where you can spend up to a whole week, ranks second in the ranking. Between positions 3 and 8 we can find, among others, authentic gems like Bucharest, Belgrade or Riga, where you can enjoy up to 6 full days of vacation.

Weekend getaways

One day in Copenhagen or Reykjavik is enough to finish almost completely with the marked budget of € 400. The two Scandinavian cities are undoubtedly the two most expensive capitals in Europe (at least for the tourist). In Bern, Amsterdam, Dublin or Paris, you could not spend more than one night either. However, there would be around € 150 of the budget available to indulge.

Madrid, among the 20 most expensive

Although it lands in the 25th position of the ranking, two places ahead of Lisbon, Andorra la Vella has the most economic capital award for tourists from the Iberian Peninsula. In the position number 12 of the ranking and with a price per day of only 75.47 €, the budget of 400 € gives a break of 5 full days in Andorra la Vella. In Madrid (€ 138.20) and Lisbon (€ 141.81), however, we would have to settle for a weekend.
